This month, we were pleased to deliver the second bespoke child safeguarding risk assessment workshop with Nauru Airlines, as part of a tailored engagement designed to support them in identifying and responding to potential risks to children across their operations.
This second session built on insights from the first workshop, where a cross-section of senior leaders came together to explore how children interact with their business—from young passengers and unaccompanied minors to under 18s at check in, on flights and in lounges.
Delivered by the Australian Childhood Foundation’s On Us Team of experts, the workshop was highly interactive and focused on identifying specific risks and opportunities within the airline’s context. Through collaborative dialogue, real-world scenarios, and strategic planning, the group co-designed a draft Child Safeguarding Action Plan—a practical, scalable approach that aligns with the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
“Nauru Airlines is proud to be the first airline to participate in the On Us: Australian Business Coalition for Safeguarding Children program,” said James Blake their Head of Commercial.
“As an air services operator, our duty of care to all of our passengers is a responsibility we take seriously, from our very youngest passengers to unaccompanied minors to under 18s and through to respected elders. This is a business principle adhered to throughout our organisation from our leadership to our network-wide operations including importantly, the issue of child safeguarding.
The Child Safeguarding workshop training and insights conducted by the Australian Childhood Foundation were invaluable as we continue to update and embed policies and processes which observe the 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and support our continuing intent as a trusted, child-safe airline company.”
We encourage other aviation, logistics, and transport providers to follow suit. You don’t need to work directly with children to make a difference—if your business touches the lives of children in any way, you have a role to play in safeguarding them.
